Whoever parented the Care Bears had a preternatural sense of who they were to become later in life, naming her children for the functions they were to complete in the utopian society Care-A-Lot.
Actually, the Care Bear code names were created by the American Greeting card company in 1981, just prior to the show's television debut. Creators gave each bear a gender, color, symbol and mission.

Bedtime Bear- Originally colored blue, toy manufacturers switched Bedtime Bear's colors with Wish Bear's aqua hue. Once the mistake was discovered, manufacturers switched the colors back. When children began to notice this mistake, show creators devised a story line explaining Bedtime Bear's fur color shift; according to Care Bear Planet, on an important caring mission, Wish Bear needed to change to Bedtime Bear's blue to get into the land of dreams.
Since then, Bedtime Bear has maintained his blue hue. With a crescent moon symbol donning his stomach, Bedtime Bear's job is to wish the children of Earth good dreams and peaceful sleep.
